76FIFA World Cup Tournament 2010
The Soccer World Cup Tournament 2010 was held in South Africa and began on 11 June 2010 and ended with the World Cup Final on 11 July 2010.
Winner of FIFA 2010 World Cup final
Spain wins the 2010 World Cup in South Africa
Netherlands 0 Spain 1 After Extra time
Thirty two teams from countries all over the world took part.
The football teams had spent three years previously playing qualifying matches to earn their place in the World Cup Finals in South Africa.
The first stage of the World Cup
The first stage of the soccer World Cup is again set in Groups of four teams from each country. There are eight groups.
Each football team plays three matches. They receive points depending on the final scores. For the team that wins the match they receive 3 points.
For the team that loses the match they receive 0 points. A draw will give each team 1 point.
Whichever two teams from each group gets the most points at the end of the qualifying matches goes into the next stage of the competition.
It is best for the team to come first in the group because that team will avoid playing any other team that came first in their group.
This is important because the next stage of the tournament is the knock out stage.

The Official World Cup Song
The Penalty Shoot Out
Sixteen teams remain and play in this round of the World Cup. In each match if a team wins it goes through to the next round which is the Semi Finals. If the match is a draw at 90 minutes play then extra time is played. This is for an extra 30 minutes. If after that time the match is still drawn then the Penalties rule comes into play.
Each team picks six players and they have a shot at goal alternately. The first team to get the most goals out of the six shots win the match. If the teams are even after six shots each then it continues until one team misses the goal while the other team hits the target.
After this stage of the tournament there will be only eight teams left in the World Cup Finals. These teams will play in the Quarter finals. The same rules apply as above if any of the matches end in a draw

The two winning teams of the Semi Finals will play in the Final of the World Cup. The winning team will become the World Cup Champions of 2010 in South Africa. They will also become heroes in their own country.

Hi Viking Wow great article. I am delighted to see it up and with so much information on it. I, like many others I would suspect, do not watch/follow football normally but I have to say I am one of those people who go wild for The World Cup.. I just love the buzz that goes along with it. It is such a worldwide game and it is great to see it bringing all of us together. Now I know that sometimes, some people take it a little too serious but I think the majority of us enjoy it for what it is, A Game.. I have voted on your article for Ivory Coast to Win. Why you may ask? Well I do believe that their Flag is very like The Irish Flag, Green White and Orange ??? Well that is my reason for voting them LOL (Laughing Out Loud) Sure haven’t they got ‘The Luck of The Irish’ on their sides with a Flag that colour xxx

I love your hubs Viking. They are so informative. I am not in the least bit interested in football but having said that, the hype of the World Cup is hard to miss, or not get caught up in. Its nice to know how it works. You explain things in such a way that it is enjoyable to read and yet the reader picks up and retains knowledge in such an easy way.
