Grand Canyon Holiday in the Snow: Photos Canyon Tour by Plane, Bus
75My first visit to the Grand Canyon
My diary and photos of a holiday at Christmas in The Grand Canyon. USA.
The Grand Canyon is a place everyone in the world should visit.
There are so many different ways to enjoy the scenery and atmosphere with lots of different Grand Canyon Tours.
I went in December when the snow had fallen for the first time in thirty years. There are lots of photos and my diary of a wonderful trip below.
I have heard lots of people say this but until you are standing there looking at this magnificent spectacle you will not appreciate how awesome nature and time and creation is.
I took the tour using the Plane and coach. There are also tours by car, helicopter and a Pony Trek. Take your pick. All the tours allow you to enjoy this spectacular natural phenomenon sight from different angles.
I can guarantee once visited then the Grand Canyon will also become a favorite holiday destination for you too. You will want to visit again and again because there is so much to see and enjoy.
My journey to Grand Canyon from Ireland
Myself, my brother, sister and nephew went to visit Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon in December 2008. That was the year of the big snowfall. We nearly didn’t get to Las Vegas at all.
We arrived at Dublin Airport at 7am. The plane had a fault and had not arrived. After finally getting to the end of the queue at Dublin airport at 2.30pm we were assigned seats on a plane the next day.
We were put up in a hotel for the night. We got on an overcrowded plane the next day at 10.am and arrived in Chicago seven hours later. We were supposed to board a plane to Las Vegas within the hour.
No flights today. Not quite on our way to Las Vegas
The plane’s engine had caught on fire
After a delay of over two hours we were told the plane’s engine had caught on fire and they were getting us another one soon. After another two hours we boarded a tiny plane overcrowded again.
The heat was unbearable and we spent over five hours of hell in that. Eventually we arrived at Las Vegas and the Mirage Hotel at 11pm USA time.
We were two days late and exhausted. We tried to sleep but were too tired.
We booked the plane for the visit to the Grand Canyon for the following day.
Five in the morning in -6 degrees temperature
We waited outside the hotel at five in the morning in -6 degrees temperature. We arrived at the small airport and there was a delay.
After an hour we were told the ice on the runway was stopping the plane taking off and all flights were cancelled to our Grand Canyon tour.
The snow was gleaming
We rebooked to fly to the Grand Canyon for the next day.
We arrived back at the Mirage hotel at 10.30 that morning. The next day we set off again at five in the morning. This time we were able to take off and get to the Grand Canyon.
The Plane was a very nice small aircraft which had very few seats so it was airy and comfortable
Icicles on the shed of the horses in the Grand Canyon.
It took over 45 minutes to get there but the journey was a pleasant one because we all had a window seat which was designed to appreciate the view below.
On the way we could see the Hoover Dam from the plane. Once at Grand Canyon airport we boarded a tour bus and were on our way.
It was freezing and covered in snow. But I tell you all the travel problems were forgotten when we arrived.
Arriving at the Grand Canyon at the start of our Tour.
We had one stop in the Grand Canyon for about half an hour and then the main viewing point stop for an hour. Everything I saw was just so beautiful. The snow on the rocks made it even nicer.
When people say you can’t describe it you’ve got to see it for yourself this is so true for the Grand Canyon. Photos, videos and television programmes just do not do it justice. There is also a three or five day horse trek to enable you to enjoy the sights from a very different perspective.
Once you get to the bottom of the Canyon then you spend a few days at the Ranch. But I would imagine this tour is for those who are younger and full of energy. Oh I’d say that would be some awesome experience too.
Another great way to see it are the helicopter tours. You can fly right into the heart of the Canyon.
There are lots of hotels and shops there too but we did not get time to enter them. We could have spent hours taking in the sights and positive energy here.
Add the Grand Canyon Tour onto your holiday and vacation list this year
Even if like me you live far away in another country then a visit to the Grand Canyon is worth adding to your travel plans.
There are lots of ways to get there.
By coach tours, by plane, by helicopter and car where you can spend some time taking in the splendour and amazing energy that surrounds you.
Another way of taking the tour is by a 5 day horse trek and spending a few days at the Ranch.
But I would recommend if you have the time and the money then you should book one of the hotels that are situated in the Canyon itself.
I could very easily have spent a few days there just wandering around and recharging my batteries for life outside.

This brings back memories!! As a third grader I got lost in Grand Canyon National forest and was rescued by a couple in a car when I clawed my way to the highway. What a gorgeous, peaceful place. I miss it. Very nice Hub.
Wow!! Amazing photos and videos! this is the one place in the world that I want to see first-hand before I leave the planet. Would you have the guts to hang over the edge like that guy did? I certainly wouldn't! what an adventure.

The Grand Canyon is an absolute must for everyone. It is awesome! They do all sorts there for the adventurous, horse riding, pony riding, even staying at the ranch working for six weeks. White water rafting etc. I would recommend anyone going with money to stay inside the Grand Canyon for at least a few days! Although Smokers beware. No smoking in any of their hotels, or lodges. But its worth it!
