I have deleted one of my emails by mistake and I need it back!

Help and advice on how to recover an email if you delete it from your Gmail account.

Have you ever deleted an important email by mistake?

It is easily done with a click of the mouse.

Gone are those important addresses and Urls.

Gone are the passwords and sign up details that you wanted to note down first.

But is this deleted email really gone for good

No!

There is an easy way to recover all deleted emails that have been lost when you clicked the delete button by mistake.

What can you do when this happens?

All email providers have a fail safe on their email accounts. I will deal will Google’s email which is called Gmail or Google Mail depending where you live in the world.

How to recover deleted emails in your Gmail account

On the far left of the screen of your Gmail account you will see a number of options.

These options are:

  • Inbox
  • Buzzed
  • Starred
  • Important
  • Sent Email
  • Drafts
  • Circles
  • Personal
  • Travel
  • 6 More (with a drop down arrow to the right of it.)

Do you share a laptop at home?

Are your emails really deleted forever?

Go to the option ‘6 More’

Click on the arrow to the right of this option.

This will bring up more options, they are:

  • Chats
  • All Mail
  • Spam
  • Trash
  • Receipts
  • Work
  • Manage Labels
  • Create new label

Click on the Trash button

There you will see all the emails you deleted in the past thirty days. If you only just deleted the email you want to recover it will be on the top of the list.

You will see the empty tiny boxes on the left of all these emails. Click on this box that corresponds with the email you want to recover.

A tick will appear in the box. Then go up the Gmail Taskbar on the top. You will see a number of options.

Delete Forever, Spam, Move to, Labels, More.

Click on the ‘Move to’ box. You will be given eight places to move the email to.

Scroll down to Inbox. Click on the Inbox word. Then the email is automatically sent back to your inbox and you have recovered the email you accidently deleted.

Gmail only keeps your deleted emails in the Trash Box for thirty days. So if you do not retrieve the email by then it will be gone for good!

How to delete your emails completely forever

I am sure you are delighted that you were able to recover the email you deleted by mistake. But did you notice something when you followed this process?

What about the emails you deleted on purpose? They are also in the Trash box. This is fine if you have your own laptop or computer and you are the only one who has access to it.

What if you share one at home or even in the office at work?

Okay I know you probably think that your email account can not be used by other people because you have your own password. Wrong! Unfortunately it is all too easy for someone to guess your password if they know you. Do you want to take that chance?

Just a word of warning as you can see from the above instructions anyone can retrieve emails that you have deleted by going to the Trash box.

What to do If you have personal or sensitive emails you want to delete that can not be retrieved by other people. Make sure when you do delete them that you go directly to the Trash Box and click on those emails and press the ‘Delete Forever’ button too.

How to use the options in your Gmail account

How to recover emails deleted on your Gmail account by mistake

So as you can see from the above article it is an easy process to recover any emails that you deleted by mistake.

Gmail in my opinion is the best email service on the internet today. The other options which I listed above are also well worth exploring too.

And do not forget about the other aspect of the deleted emails option. If you have a sensitive email on your work computer or a very personal one on your shared laptop at home then make sure you use the delete forever button in the Trash box.

This will ensure that you have deleted these emails completely.

How to use the Archive on Gmail email account

Correction: MOST providers will let you recover deleted emails for some period of time. Some (the one I sell, for example) can let you recover even when they are gone from Trash.

Thanks Pcunix for reading and taking the time to comment. Yes I agree with you but the article is about showing people who are not aware that you can recover deleted emails how to do it.

Very nice work friend. You can try archiving your mail instead of deleting them. So that you can refer them in future if you want

Very useful for anyone that is new to Gmail. This feature is useful, but you have to remember to do the full delete if it is something you want to be completely removed from your account.

SOCIALLY SHARED, up and useful.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to leave a comment.

It is very easy to delete an email by mistake, I have done it a few times, but at least it is easy enough to get back too.

Accidentally Deleted My Gmail Account, Friday Night 3-30-2012. How It Get It Back

Debbie_21@comcast.net Debbie Need Help! I've tried just about everything

Hello Debbie sorry to hear that. If you only deleted your Gmail account and not the remainder of your Google account then there is an easy solution. Click this Google Help section here http://support.google.com/accounts/bin/answer.py?h

and follow the simple instructions. Basically you can recover your deleted Gmail account if you still have a Google account.

If however you deleted your whole Google account then there is no way you can recover any of it.

Good luck and let me know how you got on
