Home made Fathers Day gifts
Below I have outlined some gifts that you can look at online that will inspire you to show your dad how you feel about him in a very public way by celebrating Father’s Day.
I will give you some gift ideas and presents that will suit your family situation, your financial situation and your own father’s unique ideal gift.
Making a gift or a card for your father is a much more personal option than just dropping out to the nearest store to buy one.
Father's Day celebrations across the world
Father’s Day is celebrated in fifty two countries across the world on the third Sunday of June every year. These would include America, Canada, United Kingdom, France, India and Ireland.
Australia and New Zealand celebrates Father’s Day on the first Sunday of September. Most other countries celebrate this special day but on other dates of the year.
Unusually Bulgaria celebrates Father’s Day the day after Christmas Day on 26th December.
A very public show of love to your dad on Father's Day
The blessing of a loving father in your life
Choosing a gift for your father and celebrating this special day can be tricky, enjoyable, or stressful. It all depends on the family circumstances. Some grown up children show their fathers their love every day in small but important ways.
They are there for them when they are needed, for a chat or to fix that broken fence. They visit with the grandchildren and involve them in their daily lives.
Other families through economic or other reasons do not have this luxury of seeing and enjoying their fathers’ daily lives.
They only manage phone calls or special intermittent visits during the year. Others have no contact at all with their fathers because of past hurts or rows.
For those of us that are blessed with a loving father this special day is a public celebration of our love for them,
Father's Day gifts and presents that cost no money
Gift Ideas for you to make as presents for your father on Father’s Day.
Make a card. A very personal and loving card could be made by you. If you are able to use a digital camera, scanner and a computer you could very easily gather up old photos of your father with his children.
Make a gift. Again with the use a digital camera, scanner and a computer you could very easily gather up old photos of your parents and family and create a very unique father’s Day present.
A small booklet of photos and messages from you and his grandchildren would be easy enough to make on the computer.
If you know how to use Windows Movie Maker you could transfer these photos and messages and photos to produce a video which he could either watch on his own computer or you could put in onto a DVD for him to enjoy.
None of these father’s Day gifts above cost a lot of money but they do take time.
If you haven’t got the time but have the money then I have some suggestions below that might interest you.

Home made Father’s Day gifts from the kids
Ideas for your small children to give as presents to their father on Father’s Day.
- Make a card. No matter how young the child is this is both enjoyable and cheap.
A great tradition to start would to hand paint a baby’s hand onto their first Father’s Day card.
Then every year after that even as the child is old enough to make their own card they could still keep up the tradition and put a painted handprint inside the card.
- Make a gift. Again you have the fun element for the child and the personal touch for the father.
What father would not rather have a Father’s day gift that has been especially made for them by their child.
- Make an IOU of services to be completed.
For younger children this could be a promise to share their toys with their siblings or to help to put their toys away.
For older children this could be to help with an extra chore around the house for a week or to have more patience with their younger siblings.
A personal poem to my father
Create your own reality
You create your own reality.
Your thoughts are your tool.
Use them wisely!
It’s not what happens in your life
that creates your reality.
It’s how your thoughts deal with them
that defines your reality.
Don’t dwell on the things you can't do
Enjoy the things you can do!
Don’t let your physical limitations imprison you.
Enjoy the freedom of time it gives you
To focus your thoughts on new endeavours.
Think in the present and you enjoy your reality.
Think in the future and your limitations
And you allow your thoughts
To give up the pleasures of
Enjoying your life in the present.
Take control of your thoughts!
Think happy. Be happy!
Your decision. Your life!
So take control now and
Create your own reality.
My own father and Father’s Day cards
My father is seventy nine this year and yet I still make him a card for his birthday and Father’s Day every year. It is a lot easier for me to buy a card but this shows him I have put in the work and the effort to show him he is worth it. With the great features on the computer I get more adventurous every year.
There is so much that can be done with digital cameras and software like Picasso 3. Last year he was having a very bad time with his health and was unable to continue with his two most passionate past times, gardening and walking.
He was due a heart operation which he was terrified of and was depressed and frustrated. I made a Father’s Day card with an extra four pages to form a booklet with photos of him enjoying his gardening and walking,
I wrote him a poem to lift his spirits too. He believes in the idea that we all create our own reality and our thoughts are very powerful in creating this reality in our own lives. So I wrote this very personal message to him on the Father's Day card. You can read it on the right.
He is over the operation now and is on the road to recovery. He still cannot be as active as he used to but he is enjoying his life again within his physical limitations. As a father’s day present he receives money so that he can buy the many books he loves to read.

Great hub, it's cool to see you still make him a card. I gave up on hallmark a few years ago and now I get him a little something different.
Cool hub....Really loved the gift ideas. Its been a long time, I made any card. I remember I used to make cute cards on all the occasions when I was a kid. Gone are the days now! (sigh!). Thanks for reminding. I'll try to make one for sure now!! :D.
Wonderful hub. I like making movies. I made one for my mother and father. Maybe I'll have to make another one. Aloha!
Great insight to what can really make a difference to a father. Only I could have expressed it better, er I mean if I could only express my thoughts as well. Haha, just kidding. My father has been gone for quite awhile so now every year, I wait to see if my son will remember me. He might sometime, you never know. Thanks for the great inspiration, I wrote one hub on the subject, but now I am motivated to do another one.
Oh great hub viking and thanks for reminding me of fathers day, sure its only a few weeks away now,,, 20th June... I must get my thinking cap on and decide what I am going to treat my father too this year...
Thanks again for a great hub and I will catch you again ... Garlic Angel :-)
Yes I agree ts become so commercial but you hub just goes to show how you can personnalise it. Some great ideas, got me thinking now.
Great hub. The cards I enjoy most are the ones that are handmade. They are so much more personal and as you said, you know that someone has gone to the trouble to make it for you. I have kept all my cards, from my children, nieces and nephews and others throughout the year and when I look back at them, the ones that stand out are the ones that were made. Great ideas on presents, I would have never thought of making a video. I made a scrapbook of pictures for my sons 21st, that included his baby pictures, school, holiday, family, friends etc, which was four years ago. He was thrilled not only with the book but the thought that I had gone to so much trouble. He still looks at it to this day at times. His recent girlfriend saw it and was touched to tears! He did one for her for her birthday (after scavening old photo's from her family'.
Informative hub.............Carry on it.
Wow, an excellent hub. Voted up, useful and beautiful. Thanks.
